DESCRIPTION:📢 Boules Tournament Recap: A Day of Fun and Friendly Competition! 🎯🌞 \nOn Friday\, May 17th\, the St. Michael’s Hospice Charity events team hosted our inaugural Boules tournament at the Tala Boules Club in sunny Cyprus. Here’s a glimpse of the exciting day: \n\nThe Draw and Mini Leagues:\n\nTwenty pairs participated\, and we divided them into four mini leagues for a round-robin elimination.\nThe winning pair from each league advanced to the semi-finals\, while the remaining 16 pairs competed in the Plate knockout tournament.\n\n\nLunchtime and Souvlaki:\n\nAs lunchtime approached\, we gathered on the sunny terrace of the Hazeli Bar.\nSouvlaki was on the menu\, and Melissa Williams provided delightful tunes.\n\n\nPlate Competition:\n\nAfter lunch\, the Plate competition resumed.\nThe sixteen pairs narrowed down to eight\, and then to our semi-finalists.\n\n\nMain Event: Plate Final:\n\nRobert Brookfield and Norbert Dewas faced off against Lucy and David Keeton in the Plate Final.\nLucy\, a first-time winner\, walked away with a runner-up medal as Robert and Norbert secured victory.\n\n\nGrand Final:\n\nThe main event featured Graham Clark and Alan Boswell against Paul and Jackie Gibbons.\nThe crowd eagerly watched as the hard-fought battle unfolded.\nIn the end\, Graham and Alan emerged as the champions.\n\n\nTerrace Refreshments and Awards:\n\nWe moved back to the terrace\, enjoying refreshments and the warm hospitality of Renos and the team.\nCharity president David Hart and his wife Carolyn joined us for the trophy presentation.\nThe raffle added an extra layer of excitement.\n\n\nFarewell:\n\nWith memories of a fun and competitive day\, we slowly dispersed\, grateful for the camaraderie and support.\n\n\n\nThank you to everyone who participated and contributed to the success of this event! 🌟🏆🌿 \nYour participation supported a great cause – The St. Michael’s Hospice Charity. SUMMARY:St. Michael’s Hospice Charity - April Padel Tournament
DESCRIPTION:📢 Padel Tournament Recap: Fast-paced Competition!  \nIt’s 11.30 a.m. Another wonderful sunny day at Aphrodite Hills Tennis Club. It’s not long before I have everything set up for the start of our first Padel Tournament. Stewart Johnson and I do the draw. There are twenty teams split into four leagues of five pairs. Each will play each other in a round robin format\, the winners of each game receiving 3points. The games will be the first to 10 with alternate serves. The winners must win by a clear two points. The winners of each league would then go through to a straight knock out semi-final. In the event of a tie in a league the points difference will be taken into account. At 1.00 p.m the competition started. As Wyn Lewis officiated and called people to their courts\, I busied myself trying to keep track of the scores and recording the winners. \nThere were some great battles going on and as we approached the final games only League Four appeared to have a clear winning pair with 9 points Stewart Johnson and Roman Nesterenko\, our first semi-finalists. The other three leagues went to the wire and the points difference had to be taken. League Three was between Oliver Lehmann and Paul Reibold tying with Dudi Avraham and Roy Semann. Dudi and Roy qualified by just a two-point advantage\, our second semi-finalists. In League Two we also had a two-way tie Sarah Symonds and Peter Rapp with Leandros Kostantinou and Sotoris Poullas. Sarah and Peter made it through by a 9-point advantage. The final group was the closest Leage One was a three-way tie Uwe Leichsenring and Nenad Havelock\, Nibal Ghoussob and Varnavas Playbell\, and finally Alexey Alekseev with Dima Michailov. Nibal and Varnavas qualified by a six-point difference. \nOur Semi Finalsts were decided. Played on a straight knock out basis. Two hard fought matches but our finalists were decided Nibal Ghoussob and Varnavas Playbell would face Sarah Symonds and Peter Rapp. \nThe crowd gathered around Court No 1 in anticipation of the climax of the afternoon. Our referee Wyn Lewis took his place and the game started. It was a competitive match\, but we had our eventual winners Nibal and Varnavas! The runners up and the winners were presented with their trophies (Kindly donated by Wyn). I personally met some wonderful people and hope to see them at our future events. Some people then made their way home\, some drifted to the bar. Everyone seemed to be pleased with the day and we may well repeat the process in October. \nWe also raised in excess of €1\,200. \nA big thank you to everyone who turned up and supported the day. Your Las Vegas Theme Night at the Aquamare Hotel on Friday\, March 22nd was a dazzling affair\, and all it took was €47.50 to step into the world of high stakes and glamour.\nThe turnout was nothing short of spectacular\, with guests reveling in the thrill of Roulette and Blackjack. While the games were all in good fun\, fate smiled upon Alan Pugh (AJ)\, who secured a luxurious three-night stay in a villa at Aphrodite Hills\, generously donated by our generous supporters Aphroditerentals.com. \nBut let’s not forget the culinary delights! The buffet spread was a feast for the senses\, and attendees couldn’t help but sing praises about the quality. As glasses clinked and laughter filled the air\, spirits flowed—courtesy of our dear friends at Polycarpos Philippou. \nMichael Antoniou\, our crooner for the night\, serenaded the crowd with tunes immortalized by legends like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. Meanwhile\, Joe Modestou worked his magic at the gaming tables\, leaving guests in awe with his sleight of hand card tricks. And when the clock struck late\, DJ Tom Owen kept the dance floor alive with irresistible beats. \nA heartfelt shout-out to Rock FM and Viva FM for spreading the word and granting us precious airtime. And let’s not overlook the support from Pals Magazine\, Cyprus Living Magazine\, and The Paphos Post—your backing made all the difference. \nThe raffle was a roaring success\, raising over €1\,000! To all the generous souls who contributed\, our deepest gratitude. Altogether\, the night raised a staggering €7\,000 (before costs)\, including a €650 donation from St. Georges FC in Peyia. \nTo each and every one who stood by us\, thank you for your unwavering support.
